thefirebeamBLUE App is designed to operate on the current Apple and Android operating systems and the two previous versions.

Using the App

Once registered and logged in, the App will automatically scan for and display all available and powered beams within Bluetooth range. You can press scan again to search for beams.

Connect to your chosen beam and the App will go to the Home menu.

If the App does not find your beam:

  • Is your beam powered on?
  • Is the detector head wiring assembly connected?
  • Is the head already connected to another mobile device? A beam can only be connected to one mobile device, its blue LED will be on if already connected to another mobile device. Disconnect from that device if required and continue.

Please see the Firebeam Blue User Guide for further information.

If 'Connecting...' continues and a connection is not achieved with a minute:

  • Are you within Bluetooth range of 20m and with an unobstructed view to the beam head, try moving closer?
  • Is Bluetooth turned on in your mobile device?
  • Is the beam head wiring assembly loose?

Please see the Firebeam Blue User Guide for further information.

thefirebeamBLUE App v2.0 contains a new, optional "passcode" feature enabling the user if they wish, to set a numerical passcode on thefirebeamBLUE detector head. This prevents other App users from accessing that detector head.

The passcode can be set in Settings menu. There you can also change or remove a set passcode. If a passcode has been set, you will be required to enter it correctly twice on connecting to your thefirebeamBLUE detector head.

Note that the "password" relates to registering thefirebeamBLUE App and the "passcode" is a a numerical code that relates to protecting thefirebeamBLUE detector head from other users.

thefirebeamBLUE App and detector head have been updated to v2 to add "passcode" and "delete account" functions.

It is always recommended you use the latest App from the App Store. This will work with a v1 detector head, although you will not be able to set a passcode unless you have a v2 detector head too.

When installing a v2 detector head, ensure you are using the latest App from the App Store. This is recommended even though the v1 App will connect to a non-passcoded v2 detector head, since it will not be able to connect to a passcoded v2 detector head.

The alert "Connection Dropped. You will now be locked out of this beam for 30 Seconds. Please consult your User Guide for further advice" appears when:

  • You do not enter a correct passcode at Passcode Entry within 30 seconds.
  • You enter three incorrect passcodes in a row during Passcode Entry.
  • If you cancel during Passcode Entry.

The Bluetooth connection is dropped and there is a short delay before you can scan, find and connect to the detector head again.

No, you can remain logged in, which saves you from logging in next time. However, if you want to prevent others using your mobile device to access the beam, then you can logout in Settings menu. There is also no limit to the number of mobile devices a user can be logged in on.

Note that disconnecting is a different process to logging out - please see the FAQ regarding 'Disconnecting from Bluetooth'.

When using thefirebeamBLUE App, pressing the mobile device home button puts the App to the background. The App also goes to the background if, for example, you view the Privacy Notice, Terms and Conditions or User Guide, as your browser is brought to the foreground. The App is still in use and open in the background.

On the other hand, swiping the App off your screen closes the App and disconnects thefirebeamBLUE App from your beam. You should not close the App during Commissioning. Remain in Bluetooth operating range and complete Commissioning before disconnecting or closing the App.

The distance away from the beam detector head at which you can connect with Bluetooth depends on the mobile device Bluetooth hardware and operating system as well as the environment. In an industrial environment, with no obstructions between you and the beam, this is typically at least 20 metres.

When the App connects to your firebeamBLUE you should stand so that you can see the beam detector head blue LED come on to confirm connection. Remain in Bluetooth operating range whilst Commissioning your firebeamBLUE.

Scan finds any firebeamBLUE that is installed and powered, within Bluetooth operating range and not already connected to a mobile device.

First, try pressing Scan button to search again for beams in Bluetooth range. Then check:

  • Bluetooth is turned on and that you are within 20m of the beam detector head.
  • Your beam is powered on in your mobile device.
  • The detector head wiring assembly is fully connected.
  • Your beam does not already show its blue LED, indicating that is already connected to another mobile device? A beam can only be connected to one mobile device at a time.

Please see the Firebeam Blue User Guide for further information.

Commissioning a firebeamBLUE works in the same way as the wired Firebeam range and follows the procedure outlined in the User Guide.

Auto-Alignment will be interrupted if you close the App as this disconnects the Bluetooth connection. To avoid interrupting Auto-Alignment, do not close the App or walk out of Bluetooth operating range whilst Commissioning is in progress as this disconnects the Bluetooth connection.

Please see the Firebeam Blue User Guide for further information.

If you have forgotten your passcode, you can remove the passcode with the following process:

  1. Power off the beam and wait at least 15 seconds for the relay "click" to confirm power has dissipated from the head.
  2. Power back on the beam.
  3. After 20 seconds power off the beam again and wait at least 15 seconds for the relay "click" to confirm power has dissipated from the head.
  4. Power back on the beam. Passcode will no longer be present.
